In numbers alone, Greenbuild 2008 was nothing short of a complete success. Attendance was up 25 percent from 2007, registering over 28,000 attendees! These people came from all 50 states, from 85 countries and six continents. Exhibitors were also up 68 percent, using 62 percent more square footage.

A release from Kimberly Lewis, Vice President of Conferences & Events for the U.S. Green Building Council, addresses the importance now in the "next step" we must take to help us harness our momentum.

"As we bask in the inspiration still so fresh in our minds from Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s stirring words of inspiration and hope, we cannot be content to have been so moved. We must now convert that resolve into measurable, meaningful change," Lewis's statement reads. "As we revel in being part of a movement that can draw 28,000-plus people together in tough economic times, we cannot sit complacently by, satisfied by past achievements. We must make this a movement that embraces and is embraced by absolutely everyone. We must bring green to everyone, and everyone to green."

The theme of this year's Greenbuild – "Revolutionary Green" – was indeed appropriate. We have all been part of taking Green into the mainstream and are delighted by how it has been embraced. Now, during tough economical times, we are taking our message to the masses. Greenbuild 2009 will be in Phoenix on November 11-13, with the theme "Main Street Green: Connect to the Conversation" and promises to address many of our "next steps" that we experience this year.
