Welcome to DestinationGreen!

It is only June, and it looks like the summer will be a busy one for Green Cleaning professionals. This should all be good news for all of you as you are selling your products and services. Numerous "happenings" are occurring throughout the nation and around the globe that are promising to help your sales efforts.

The issue of DestinationGreen contains a sampling of what is going on in the non-profit and the corporate world as Green solidifies itself in the marketplace as the products and services of the near future, and today.

As we speak, I am traveling to an initial meeting on a project organized by The Keystone Center. This project seeks to clear-up the muddied waters that confront consumers as they seek to purchase legit, Green Cleaning and other Green products and services. Next month, I'll give you an update on this exciting proposal.

LEED-EB is going through changes as well – and this is discussed in this month's Green Selling Tip, "The Confusing World of LEED-EB." Other interesting changes are emerging in all facets of our lives that pertain to "green" – and we spotlighted a few of those in this month's roundup of news headlines.

Finally, I hope all of you working within schools and universities will take part in the second annual Green Cleaning Awards for Schools & Universities, again sponsored by American School & University, The Green Cleaning Network and the Healthy Schools Campaign. There is a link to the application below. I hope you all enjoy this first month of summer and are experiencing increased sales with the continued flood of great news toward the Green Cleaning Movement.

Green Selling Tip: The Confusing World of LEED-EB

greenselltip

As I think you know, earlier this year LEED-EB went through a major revision that resulted in some important changes affecting our industry. Of these changes perhaps the most significant is the inclusion of a “prerequisite” for Green Cleaning. Think about it --- going forward ALL buildings going for LEED-EB certification will need to put in place a policy on Green Cleaning with specific requirements for purchasing chemicals, paper, liners and equipment, along with standard operating procedures, appropriate training and staffing levels. All things that you can help them with.

The award is sponsored by American School & University, The Green Cleaning Network and the Healthy Schools Campaign. To access the application, visit the

The Award's application itself has been improved from last year to make it easier. Only a single written summary is required. In addition, the application has been significantly streamlined by eliminating the need to write descriptions of all the products used in the program. This year’s application provides an easy to use outline of products including chemicals, equipment, supplies, janitorial paper, plastic liners that only requires the blanks to be filled in.

The deadline for submitting applications is September 12, 2008.

We encourage all of you to continue working at the local level to help create these changes!
